Masquerade Madness

Habitat for Humanity is holding its 10th Anniversary of “Taste of Collin County”Monday, September 13, 2010. This year the theme is “Masquerade Madness”, where guests may sample food from Collin County restaurants. It will be held at the Collin County Regional Airport from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In addition to great food, there will be live bands and and a silent auction.

For the kids, there will be face painting,  bounce houses, an obstacle course and craft activities.

It is an exciting annual event that raises tens of thousands of dollars to benefit Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build decent affordable housing for God’s people in need.

We are holding this fundraising event to build twelve more homes in our area this year. We recently dedicated our 60th home with three more under construction. We must rely on the kindness and generosity of companies and leaders in the community like you to help us raise the necessary funds. In-kind contributions of materials or labor are also a valuable benefit to our homes.

Since becoming involved with Habitat, we have gained tremendous respect for the families they have helped. Their commitment and their sense of obligation to make their lives better and to give opportunities to their children are most profound and rewarding. The home is not free to them, and they must pay back an interest free loan over a period of twenty years for the actual cost of the home. To qualify they must be living in substandard housing, have earnings 30% to 60% of the median household income for this area and partner with Habitat. They must also be working and making every effort to provide for their family, but just can never have enough to be able to buy a home.
